BreakThru Films is known for ground breaking, artistic and commercially succesful animation projects.
Their first major production, Peter and the Wolf, won the Oscar for best animated short, premiered to a sold out Royal Albert Hall, and was a pioneering film in the now popular format of films exhibited in concert halls accompanied by live orchestras.
BreakThru's most recent film, Loving Vincent, is the world’s first fully painted feature film, and was a success both with film festivals and in terms of worldwide box office.
This $5.5m film grossed $42m from its theatrical release, making it one of the most successful animations of all time for an adult audience. The film picked up 23 Audience Awards at film festivals, including the coveted Annecy Cristal at the world’s biggest animation festival, and was nominated as best feature animation in the world’s most prestigious award events including The Oscars and the Golden Globes.
Currently BreakThru Films is working on The Peasants movie. It is produced in the same painting technique as Loving Vincent. The story is based upon the Nobel Prize winning novel by Wladyslaw Reymont. The premiere is planned for Autumn 2023.
Additionally BreakThru is interested in co-productions with established directors and producers who have feature film projects that they are interested in making in BreakThru’s Painting Animation style.
BreakThru Films is a Polish company, located in the North of Poland. The Polish Government and the Polish Film Institute are actively encouraging productions from abroad to co-produce with Poland, and have introduced a scheme that will refund 30% of all costs a film spends in Poland, as well as additionally inviting applications for further discretionary funding from a project’s Polish partner.
